First Night

This was my first post on LiveJournal about Ceroc. I set it to friends only.

I went ceroc dancing tonight. I had a really, really great time even though I sucked so bad. I learned one of the moves wrong and I'll have to relearn it. I came away craving more.

It's probably the first time I've done any kind of partner dancing and therefore the first time I've really been expected to lead. Generally went for partners that either the new people (because we both could learn) or experienced person who went to the beginners class (so they knew what I was trying to do). I did dance with a couple of women who weren't in either category and it really showed what a weak lead I was.

Here's my move descriptions. I thought I'd keep them in because they make me laugh :D.

  • Armjive to a Twirl (Left or Both to Left). It's a really easy move but I'm still finding it really difficult to get into the move and convince my partner that she should do likewise. I would like to practice this more; since it is one of the key moves in one of it's forms I expect I will.

  • The Man Spin (Left to Right). This was quite an easy move; I find myself often putting out my right hand to go into it before I've really thought about what move I want to go into.

  • Shoulder Drop (Right to Left). I got this wrong on the first week but it really came along. Women in a clockwise twril and then into a half spin with your right hand on the shoulder. Move for a brief side glance back in drop from the right hand to the left.

  • The Basket (Left or Both to Left). Woman does a 180 turn with you then hip to hip and the left hand out in front and the right behind. Use motion in the hand to guide the woman back then forward then unroll. Finishes with twirl and release the right hand half way through that.
